What is strength-based expressive therapy?
Strength-based expressive therapy combines positive psychology and expressive therapies to help clients make lifestyle changes and self-actualize in ways that improve their lives.
How does it help?
Positive psychology helps clients understand and use their strengths to meet challenges and achieve their goals in life.
Expressive therapies help clients tell their stories, understand their inner lives, achieve emotional stability, and enjoy the journey to self-actualization.
Strategies include:
Appreciative Inquiry
Motivational Interviewing
Music Therapy
Art Therapy
Storytelling
Using Values in Action (VIA) strengths survey to identify client's strengths
An example might be to use expressive therapies to bring awareness of subconscious blockages that limit beliefs and create negative thinking patterns that hinder personal growth, success, and well-being. At the same time using appreciative inquiry, motivational interviewing, and other strength-based strategies to make changes in thinking, emotions and behaviors to promote positive change and achieve their wellness goals.
